Group C Season Preview 2011

Posted on 28th March 2011 by Team Neaves

The PBIC 2011 season kicks off at Brands Hatch on 10 April. The entry list looks pretty short, but most of the usual suspects are signed up. Which begs the question, will the racing be as action packed as last year? I think so. (more…)

Who will be King of the Mountain…

Posted on 25th August 2009 by Team Neaves

The next race on the Peter Best Insurance Challenge calendar is Cadwell Park on Saturday 5th September. They don’t call it the ‘Mini Nurburgring’ for nothing, Cadwell is a mighty track that sorts the men from the boys – or should that be sorts the fathers from the sons…

Its worth mentioning that the title of this post is no coincidence as the best driver at Cadwell is awarded the coveted ‘King of the Mountain’ award at the end of the season. But with defending King Simon ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson AWOL it’s anyone’s to take! Top contenders are Simon Cripps, Dan Ludlow and er, Sir Ranulph Fiennes. (more…)

Drama at Silverstone

Posted on 15th July 2009 by Team Neaves

There have been mixed reactions in the Team Neaves camp to this years Silverstone meet, which was quite eventful for us!

It promised to be an interesting spectacle with a few old faces back on the track, such as Andy Young (MGC) and Paul Rayment (MGF Cup). With the weather bright and breezy and Blaine with his new slicks on the three cars headed out for Qualifying on a dry track.

On the first lap Blaine got a puncture, which turned out to be one of the new tyre valves for the in car pressure monitor, which had come undone. Which left the Blaine’s Boys (even the commentators call us that now!) to find their own way round. The lap times were tumbling from an initial lap of 1.51 – only 10 seconds off the pace!! By lap 4 both were in the 1.48’s when lightning struck the number 3 car of Dan, when the car died changing into fifth. It turned out to be a electrical plug for the ignition which had popped of somehow – very odd considering it’s got a metal retaining clip! Ollie shaved more time off to qualify 13th on a low 1.47, with Dan in 21st on a 1.48 and Blaine 43rd after completing the mandatory 3 laps on his flat rubber.

The AGM

Posted on 15th July 2009 by Team Neaves

The Peter Best AGM was held this year in a small room without opening windows, which was a bit sticky!  The usual silence ensued as Technical Officers and Secretaries were re-elected – with no-one wanting to take the position of class F drivers rep.   However, the Peter Besters soon piped up when we got to AOB…  Some interesting issues were rasied – and some that will probably lead to another incredibly long drivers meeting

Issues raised were:

- Longer races, if we can fill our grids, we should be able to bargain for longer races for the same prices, aiming for a minimum of 20mins

- BCV8 competitors coming over, we expect a lot of the group B cars to come over from the BCV8 championship, what should we do about regulating them?  Should they be allowed in?

- Regulations on B series engines to keep costs down, this was also raised breifly, in relation to the above.  It is possible to get 200hp plus out of a 1950 B series engine, but only if you own a bank.

- Split grids, it seems theres not a lot of love for Metros – calls to stop splitting the PBIC with other races.  Could the PBIC fill two grids?

- All V8’s in group C, are all the V8s fast enough to go in Group C

I wonder what the general feelings are on all these points?  Hopefully that Jonesey fellow will post something to get us all talking about it – as I for one want to ensure the maximum amount of beer drinking time at this years Dinner Dance!  If you have any views on the above, or other suggestions leave a comment and start the debate…

Wind-up merchants welcome!

Pre Race Report – Silverstone 2009

Posted on 26th June 2009 by Team Neaves

Hello race fans, we hope you like the new site, and would welcome any comments / suggestions you have to improving it further. :)

To follow on from the Brands Race report we have made a discovery… We realised the slick tyres on Blaine’s (7) car were pretty worn, mind you he had been running them for about a year!! So some nice new rubber has been wrapped around the wheels in readiness for Silverstone. Perhaps that could explain why he was slower than last year? (more…)

Brands Hatch 2009 – Round 3 & 4

Posted on 12th June 2009 by Maverick

Firstly apologies for the some what less than prompt post, only we haven’t been all that enthused after Brands!

The scene was set for a great day’s racing at Brands Hatch, the early morning sun was heating the track up nicely, and the Maverick and Cougar were up bright (maybe not…) and early for their first experience in the danger zone. All three well polished Team Neaves cars lined up in the paddock and ready for action next to the immaculately prepared cars of Simon Cripps, Barry Holmes, Rob Spencer and Brian Radcliffe. With scruteneering passed and the briefing for the rookies out of the way the cars headed out for what was hoped to be an exciting qualifying session…

Jonesey was especially excited and was heard saying “I feel the need… the need for speed!” (more…)
