That was the name of the game today down at Brands Hatch, testing. The first time the cars have ever turned a wheel on a track, and indeed, the first time Goose – I mean Cougar / Hardy – and I had ever been on track. (more…)

Roll Cage
After travelling up to the RollCentre headquarters to collect my cage I could not wait to fit it.
This was one of the bits I had been looking forward to most. We mock fitted the cage before we sprayed the car. We then welded the plates in to the car and sprayed them. After the paint was hard we bolted the cage in. The cage seems very well made, although it took a little persuasion to fit.
Once the cage went in, it started to somehow feel like more of a race car.

Bodywork
Now the fun really starts, we managed to bulk buy a load of fibreglass as we needed enough to do two full cars and repair Old Number 7 after the off at Silverstone. Although the offer of ultra light incredibly thin fibreglass was offered to us, we decided we would rather carry a couple of extra kilograms to stop the car falling apart after the slightest prang. Suspension
The front suspension was assembled on a bench and then fitted to the car afterwards. As with Dan’s car I have used solid nylatron bushes, negative camber wishbones and up rated valves and oil in the front shocks. Of course there are a few other mods but they are top secret!
The rear suspension is all sitting in my shed ready to fit when I get round to it, the car is currently sat on original rubber bumper GT rear springs, hence it looks like a tractor at the moment!

Painting
Unfortunately when it came round to painting the shell we no longer had use of the super-duper temperature controlled spray oven. However Jeremy Rogers from Surrey Sports and Classics kindly let us borrow his spray booth. As can be seen the car is Jazz Blue as is Daniels.

The Shell
As previously said, I ended up with a better condition shell to start with. The shell was acquired when Blaine had a nasty accident at Snetterton. A straight shell was needed to make a jig so Old Number 7 could be repaired. The shell was sold to Blaine by Max who many of you may remember as he used to run the club back in the Phoenix days.
The shell required new floors, sills, and a couple of minor panels. It was then sent off to be sand blasted. Even now we are still find grains of sand coming from everywhere!
