Hello race fans, we hope you like the new site, and would welcome any comments / suggestions you have to improving it further.
To follow on from the Brands Race report we have made a discovery… We realised the slick tyres on Blaine’s (7) car were pretty worn, mind you he had been running them for about a year!! So some nice new rubber has been wrapped around the wheels in readiness for Silverstone. Perhaps that could explain why he was slower than last year?
The clutch issues at Brands were due to faulty friction plates, we’ve now ordered some AP replacements which are out of stock, but we are told they will be going into production soon. Will it be soon enough? Who knows! So if we make it to Silverstone we’ll stand a better chance of making it to the race, although current weather report suggest heavy rain – which we don’t like much.
It’s looking busy at Silverstone again this year with a grid of 42 cars, with any luck three of them will be Team Neavesers! Yes we’re still trying to get our transport issues sorted, as well as getting the clutches replaced, at the moment it’s looking tight. But that seems to be our style…
Group C is looking especially interesting – as well as a certain Group B contender that I shall get to in a minute. As well as the usual suspects the Paul Rigg Metro will presumably make its first appearance, as this time he’s remained on the entry list rather than being taken off after first draft. I wonder if the Rigg entry will employ sand-bagging tactics like another Metro I know
Paul Rayment will be out in an MGF Cup car, which, should be very fast if Paul (another!) Luti’s Trophy car is anything to go by.
The notorious MGC of Andy Young, which I have heard has been ‘de-tuned’ (?) will be making a comeback. Lets hope its better matched to the other cars in Group B this time!
One important point for the drivers reading this is to remember the drivers AGM is usually held at Silverstone, so remember to turn up and vote, apparently it does count
Time for some fun now then, pre race predictions…
-Blaine will miss the race as he will have got lost in his jumbo size overalls.
-Jonesey’s rain dance will pay off.
-Dan and Ollie will beat Blaine. ![]()
-Alan will forget to take the shopping out of his Montego and there will be an incident involving a multi-buy pack of toilet rolls at turn one.
-Andy Young will romp to Victory in his C.
-Barry Holmes will get a bad start due to tuning his radio to the sound of Fleetwood Mac.
-Simon Hutchinson, during a moment of boredom, will invent penguin racing.
If you want tickets for Silverstone they can be purchased from www.mglive.co.uk.
That’s all for now folks, hopefully see you there!
Team Neaves

Talking of Penguins, had an 8 mile trip on foot the other day to see the resident bunch that stick out the winter here. They move pretty fast for such short legged critters but boy are they stinkers! Do your motors use Ford clutches (you run type 9s 5speeds don’t you?), if so what is the supply problem, surely Burtons, Peter Lloyd Rallying ect must have stock. Get Retro Ford mag as there’s loads of adds in there. Hope you make it chaps and hope the rain stays away. Obviously if I was going to be there I’d be joining Jonesey in the rain dance!
Hi Simon, there was a shortage at AP as apparently stockists are no longer keeping much on the shelves. But worry not….. clutches arrived yesterday and we are working flat out to get them both running for Sunday. We decided to go for 7.25″ full race clutches the same as the old man has. Speaking of which he is looking forward to your return as he would like someone to race against, with all the lead in he can’t stay near the V8’s or the mighty metro (which seems to be even faster this year!). Either that or the old man is getting old and slow
Watch this space!
P.S let me know when I need to put my order in for a penguin.
Ollie
After the clutches arrived yesturday morning we have now assembled, fit and run the engines on both cars (not bad for a day and a halfs work right?). Everything seems to work well in the garage and we hope it will all work just as well on track!
Pics of the new clutches can be seen here.
All thats left to do now is figure out how we will get the cars to the track. As some of you may know this is an ongoing problem. We have a week to sort it out though…..what could go wrong?
See you all at Silverstone (hopefully)
Ollie & Dan
Good work fellas, they look expensive bits of kit! Were your flywheels already drilled for them? Hope the weather is ok for you to get some experience, remember, overtaking your Dad could seriously increase your rent! Looking fwd to getting back out there too. Tell Dad he’s the stby class C rep for the Silverstone Drivers meeting. Have the V8s had their weight adjusted yet and is Sandbagger Ludlows car the same weight as yours? Get it all sorted by Snetterton would you!! Only a month and a bit to go now.
Hi Simon, hope all is well. I don’t think the V8’s will be ballasted as dan seems to be able to mix with them? think possibly the the metro handles better than the B. Are there any points you would like raising at the AGM this Sunday?
No chance you could be out for cadwell?
I have new rubber for Silverstone (another new make!) could be good or could be very average like all the others.
