Pre Race report Silverstone

Posted on 1st June 2010 by Team Neaves

Well fans, you’ll no doubt notice we’ve been mostly silent this year, but all that is about to change! Partly to blame has been the Team Neaves Shop, we have literally been inundated with one order… Welcome to the Silverstone Pre-Race Report. (more…)

Build up to Brands 2010

Posted on 21st March 2010 by Team Neaves

Welcome back to the Peter Best Insurance Challenge for what promises to be another fantastic year of racing. The Team Neaves crew has been working feverishly hard over the winter to increase the size of their beer bellies, in pre-season girth-testing the hard work seems to be paying off…

brands

The list of group C reprobates entrants has changed a bit this year, but still looks very well represented when compared with recent years. It seems the usual suspects will be there for the season opener, the V8 clan and Simon in the mighty midget followed by 2/3rds of Team Neaves. (which is incidentally usually the order on the track…) Dan will be MIA for most of this year while he concentrates on his web design business – shamelessplug.com. (more…)

Class C Regs Debate!

Posted on 11th October 2009 by Team Neaves

See the proposed regs below…

The intention was that we could get just the Class C boys chatting on here – so as not to p*ss on Joneseys chips, but FYI there are the Class A and B regs too…

All classes ( sporting, not technical )

  • Clarification of grid times used to set two grids from a single qualifying session. Use of first and second fastest times. Trying to avoid inconsistancy if championship has some classes running in another race.
  • Points scoring to only use official posted race results. No more point for entry on in time. Easier for those that want to keep score for themselves. Also with many completing the season entry form it has become irrelevant to its original purpose of encouraging people to enter before the closing date. However, it is still felt by mgcc that this is an incentive worth keeping so perhaps we put the season entry list up on the website or push for closing date entry lists from the club.
  • Class A

  • Clarification of Shock absorber mounting regs. Make it very clear that the shockers can only mount on existing mounting holes, no extra holes or alternate mountings like turrets.
  • Fibreglass panels may only replace bolted panels. No fibreglass rear wings or rear valences etc. However no replacement of doors whether cage has door bars or not.
  • Restriction on cylinder head mods. As well as valve size restrictions we could specify inlet/exhaust port/gasket dimensions.
  • Allow MGC to run a non standard cam. Currently the MGC is restricted to a standard cam and it has been asked if a sportier option could be allowed. If the engine is built to the limit of the current regulations will it be slower than an MGB?
  • Class B

  • Restrict MGB V8 models in Class B. 3.5 litre engines only? Do we continue to allow 3.9 engines. Several people are looking at building/buying cars and have 3.9 engines. Do we set the 3.9 weight higher as per the MGR V8?
  • Move MGB V8 models to Class C. Same comments as above.
  • Restrict MGC models. Two main areas where mgc is possibly ahead, induction and tyre size. Reduce tyres back to same as B variants on 6inch rims. Restrict carbs to production SU HS or HIF 6.
  • Restrict class B current popular cars to encourage Midgets. How do Midget times compare? Similar to MGC above we could restrict the carbs or tyres on MGBs. This would be at odds with the Cockshoot regs and would not allow a progression from class A
Should any form of differential other than original be allowed? Currently the MGB and V8 are allowed limited slip but not locking differentials, should this continue, should it extend to other models?
  • Class C

  • V8 to be 3.5 litre only. See class B point above. Currently class B allows 3.9 litre engines and if we put all V8’s in class C what engine maximum is allowed.
  • Further clarification of K series regulations. Clarify the spec of the K series engine.

    The Snetterton Finale!

Posted on 10th October 2009 by Team Neaves

What a weekend!  The last races of the season at Snetterton were two of the best – a great and fitting end to the season.  So what happened I hear you ask?

Following a couple of failed attempts on track at Cadwell Dan and Ollie had some work to do before Snetterton.  Ollie had a problem with a throttle sensor which was easily rectified but Dan’s problem was more fundamental… a short time after Cadwell Dan discovered a heavy box in the corner of the garage containing odd implements.  What could these be?  These conspicuous metal objects seamed to fit nuts and bolts, that’s right, Dan got to grips with the spanners in an effort to stop the gearbox cross member falling off again!  More on this later… (more…)

A trip to Lake Snetterton anyone?

Posted on 27th September 2009 by Team Neaves

That’s right it’s that time of year again, next weekend we’ll make the trip to Norfolk for the season finale of the Peter Best Insurance challenge at Snetterton. Blaine, Dan and Ollie all had reasonable pace at Cadwell and are hoping to continue in the same vein at Snet…

In preparation for the race Team Neaves Racing have fitted rudders, anchors and compasses to their cars so that navigating around Snetterton will be that little bit easier. However, this will all be in vein if last year is anything to go by, as you may have guessed, it was a little too wet to race. :) (more…)

    A Promising Performance at Cadwell

Posted on 7th September 2009 by Team Neaves

It was a day of mixed fortunes at Cadwell Park on Saturday for the penultimate meeting of the Peter Best Insurance Challenge Championship, but certainly a day to remember!

The usual suspects chose to confuse us all with a bit of a switch around for this meeting. Rob Spencer was waiting for his group C V8 to be straightened, and chose to bring out his group B V8. Barry ‘Vic Reeves’ Holmes switched to Simon Cripps’ group B 4 pot, leaving Terry Holmes to peddle his group C V8. Another interesting entry was Peter Andrews in Rob Huff’s group B 4 pot. With all this chopping and changing and the sun god smiling the scene was set for a great days racing!

Who will be King of the Mountain…

Posted on 25th August 2009 by Team Neaves

The next race on the Peter Best Insurance Challenge calendar is Cadwell Park on Saturday 5th September. They don’t call it the ‘Mini Nurburgring’ for nothing, Cadwell is a mighty track that sorts the men from the boys – or should that be sorts the fathers from the sons…

Its worth mentioning that the title of this post is no coincidence as the best driver at Cadwell is awarded the coveted ‘King of the Mountain’ award at the end of the season. But with defending King Simon ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson AWOL it’s anyone’s to take! Top contenders are Simon Cripps, Dan Ludlow and er, Sir Ranulph Fiennes. (more…)

    K Series teams for Snetterton

Posted on 13th August 2009 by Team Neaves

Mr Alan Brooke has kindly invited Team Neaves Racing to join a K Series only team in this years 4 Hour Race at Snetterton. Naturally Team Neaves are flattered and will be accepting gratiously.

Initially the idea was to try and make a team comprising one of each of the K Series engined cars in the Peter Best Championship, there are however a couple of gaps in the model range and hopefully enough people interested to get a couple of teams together.

Any K Series MG is welcome, no matter how big or small. If you’re interested then please leave a comment or use the contact section of the site and let us know!

    Team Neaves

PS. There is a rumour that a ‘team talk’ will be held in the nearest pub on the saturday night before the race ;)

    Mallory Park 2009

Posted on 4th August 2009 by Team Neaves

The Mallory Park circuit in Kirkby Mallory was the scene for some great racing with the Peter Best Insurance Challenge Championship over the weekend. The most noticeable achievement for Team Neaves racing was that we all finished this time!

Driving up on the Saturday night the weather was looking decidedly iffy; the rain was truly torrential. But it cleared for our arrival to the circuit, which meant we would be able to make our way to the circuit bar in relative comfort. ;) (more…)
